The Dancers Are Dancing Series (monthly edition) was born out of a desire to create free training opportunities as a response to the challenge of investing in consistent development of practice for emerging and professional artists amongst community.
On the first Thursday of every month come and enjoy a free masterclass where you’ll practice/learn/explore different movement languages and ideologies alongside a bunch of other dance artists/dance nerds.
Each session will have a focus that alternates between two streams:
- Repertoire - the artist shares repertoire/specific movement scores from their body of work. Offering a rare moment to experience the movement language/world of a work
- Practice - the artist leads a session concentrating on their current obsession/practice. This might be their principal (yet ever evolving) movement practice, research for a new work, or a new path of enquiry
Registration is necessary as capacity is limited. The link to register will be shared here and on Instagram, opening 2 weeks prior to each class.
Tra Mi Dinh will lead the first session (repertoire) on Thursday 7th August.

This monthly edition is an off-shoot from the recent Dancers are Dancing week-long intensive.
Hosted at Temperance Hall from July 7 - 11, emerging and professional dance artists gathered to experience a range of specific movement languages, choreographic methodologies, and somatic practice through the lens/brains/bodies of five of Naarm’s most exciting independent artists.
Over five days, each artist hosted a full day workshop, sharing their distinct artistic practice with the cohort. This years incredible line up of Australian dance artists included Melanie Lane, Lee Serle, Amber McCartney, Kimball Wong, and Harrison Ritchie-Jones.
Curated by Tra Mi Dinh, the intensive’s intention was to nurture and sustain the exhilarating energy that builds when dancers share and learn together. Independently run, with a focus on deepening practice amongst peers the intensive provides a space to concentrate on the expansion and development of each dancer/artist/person.
Held in the depth of Naarm’s winter, the intensive offers an ‘at home’ version of the European summer workshop experience, without the travel.
The Dancers are Dancing Series is an opportunity for dancers to expand their movement practice and enrich their growing body of knowledge.
